Downshift | New Moon in VIRGO | August 30, 2019

We’ve got a New Moon in VIRGO (Decan I) reviving the grounded wisdom of prudence with the 8 of Disks . This cosmic event occurs at 6 degrees of Virgo, nearly perfectly trine Uranus in Taurus and alongside the planet Mars in Virgo. We slow down to leap froward with this one, generating a lighter, less cumbersome, fuel for forward-momentum.

The Challenge: possible sunburn or over-exposure (a need for protection from the Sun or natural elements), too much tampering leads to more problems/difficult to recover from, micro-managing that damages relationship bonds, hesitation on intuition that stifles growth, energy wasted trying to “fix” something that is broken or irreparable

The Breakthrough/Potential Wisdom: preparation for Future/goals and dreams to come alive, quality control endeavors particularly favored, safe-guarding work or investment, do less to get more, applying rationality/intelligence to achieve goals, working in perfect alignment with nature and all material world natural processes, scholarship, purposefulness

Virgo Decan I.png

This New Moon’s vibe draws on the wisdom of the 8 of Disks. A beautiful card symbolically representing the principle of prudence. The tree is growing (maturing) and flowering, about to bear fruit from the delicate flowers. There' is care from the leaves, as they curl around the flowers to shield them from the blistering Sun (in Virgo).

The hills in the background of the imagery of the Tarot card, and the upright tree, give us the feeling that we are moving forward — growing. Yet, the large leaves draw our eyes downward, puling us back down to Earth.

Quality Control and Maintenance Measures

It’s the little things, the fine details, that come into focus within the zone of Virgo, The Hermit. What is essential to tend to, so as not to risk spoiling the harvest. You see (as depicted in the card above) the fruit of our labor is not yet evident…. but we know the benefits are coming. It only stands to reason that we should take care of what is becoming… to ensure a bountiful, and pure, harvest.

Our efforts will be wasted, under this influence, if we try to fix what is clearly not worth fixing or already beyond the point of no return in our lives. This can be a tough lesson for those who prefer to *believe* they can rescue anything, if only they nit-pick it apart or just keep working, in order to make it perfect. Now is a time for thinking, and reason. For complimenting nature, and working with it — not against it.

Highly favored are activities that require little effort and routine maintenance, not total overhauls.

Paying attention to the quality of the environment for whatever you want to grow in your life, minor tweaks, clearing and cleaning anything unnecessary? Yes. Extra boost provided for trusting that Nature will produce dividends beyond what you can imagine.

Mental Tune-Up

With the stellar connection the Sun and Moon make to Uranus, our due diligence can become out of this world success. Uranus, in fact, is doubly emphasized during this phase as the 8 of Disks connects with The Star of the Major Arcana, associated with the sign of Aquarius (Uranus’ realm in the cosmos). So this adds to the tuning-up element that’s on tap for us, because The Star reveals clear vision and higher potential for a pure connection to divine intelligence.

I refer to it as simply becoming a “clear channel”. This concept (which developed into a personal & sacred practice) is something I learned early on in my Tarot reading journey. I noticed I got jumbled information from the cards when I went right from my long to-do list to lighting candles and expecting the cards to reveal a solution or insight into a situation. If my mind wasn’t clear — if I didn’t take the time to slow down and purify my own energy - nothing of value came through in a reading. Or, it simply didn’t make any sense at all.

We can all get a mental tune-up now. We can begin to clear away the clutter in our own minds, paying closer attention to how we feed them, too. In a world where news feeds are every which way we turn, perhaps it’s time for a diet?

When there’s too much data frying our internal motherboards, it becomes more difficult for our natural talent, and unique brilliance, to shine through. So it’s truly a blessing that we have this potent energy liberating us to see through the clouds and the rubbish, and nurture what’s golden and already alive inside us.

It’s a great time for breath-work, yoga, and anything that clears the mind and helps you remain grounded (rooted in your body) in the process.

Getting Into Gear

With Mars closely involved now, we get a peek at 2020 and the necessary fuel to fine-tune how we approach what lies ahead for us. Harmonious connections with the trio of Earth signs of the zodiac turns our tiniest efforts applied now into great accomplishments up the road. And I mean UP the road. The energy isn’t really slowing down, it’s ramping up. It’s only now that we get an opportunity to downshift into gear and think about what we need to do now, in order to be prosperous tomorrow.

Mars, so close, helps us feel motivated to focus on what’s essential. Driving us to apply ourselves when it comes to practical matters and perhaps even, initiate some promising long-term investments — of time, energy and money.

Here’s a good question to tune into on this practical, magical New Moon in Virgo….

Are you giving yourself the protection and nourishment you need now for your development?

Burning The Hard Copies | New Moon in LEO | July 31, 2019

We’ve got a 2nd New Moon in Leo (Decan I) aligned with the 5 of Wands taking us ever deeper into the journey within to re-discover who we truly are, where we have been misled and awakening our zest for Life once more. Closely tied with Venus and challenged by Uranus, we could feel trapped by the usual affections of kindred spirits and feel a need to break-out or rebel in order to free our wild-side — that fire within that urges us to be free in the face of what is normally acceptable .

The Challenge: fears of being invisible/not recognized for who you truly are or want to be, afraid that desires will not be met and resorting to procrastination/holding back/self-sabotage, extravagant pride, passive aggressiveness, angry outbursts that cause setbacks and failures, excessive vanity or over-spending on luxury items and over-compensation, connection feels off and can lead to arguments/heated conflict

The Breakthrough/Potential Wisdom: healthy competitive edge, ability to align efforts with heart’s desire and authentic talent, invigorating activity that inspires others and perhaps a new creative adventure that leads to more wealth/defining + long-lasting success, willingness to work hard to bring wildest dreams to life, pursuing talents/developing skills that will prove to be valued and respected by others, confidence with integrity, ability to act on intuition or psychic awareness that creates successful future, even Fame

Leo Decan I.png

This New Moon wraps up that provocative pair of Eclipses we experienced earlier this month… sorta. The extreme energies that clicked into high gear this month will reverberate, wreaking havoc and change-making for a while, but this Moon does mark a new shift in the overall dynamics. As with all New Moon phases, something new is emerging.

The 1st decan of Leo is where this new shift is taking place and the place within where we realize we are unique and have something special to give to the world at large. We become a bit more willing to take risks, as we leave the safety and comfort of home and family to discover what makes us separate from the clan and this can initiate strife — that’s what the Tarot card aligned with this first 10 degrees of the zodiac sign of Leo shows us.

The strife indicated by the 5 of Wands emanates from what’s already been created and is well-established. So, things like family, genes, traditions, society, rules and regulations—- limitations of all kinds start to really mess with your mojo.

In the image of the Tarot card (pictured above), you can see the staff of the Egyptian God, Ra, attempting to lift-off, but depressing the flames beneath it. As a consequence the flames appear like ribbons, much like when a heavy log is placed on a bonfire. While it can ultimately serve to fuel the fire and keep it going for a long time, at first it smothers it (especially if the fire is struggling to begin with). The flames morph into ribbon-like flames that dance in scattered directions after such a disruption to the blaze.

Adding to this already disruptive quality is a challenging aspect that the planet Uranus is making to the Sun, Moon and Venus. It adds a touch of electricity to the mix for this particular New Moon that can make things quite explosive or suddenly short-circuit.

Venus Matters

The planet Venus curled up with the Sun and Moon in Leo at this time adds depth to the meaning of the Tarot Card aligned with this decan of Leo. All 5’s in the Minor Arcana are part of The Hierophant Constellation. And The Hierophant is the Tarot Card that aligns with the zodiac sign of Taurus, ruled by Venus. Bringing all that magic together is the importance of the planet Uranus in that sign (Taurus) affecting the influence of this lunation.

So Venus matters from relationships, money, and food to what we truly deserve or want to embody come into focus beneath the cloak of the night sky at this New Moon time.. The confrontations, surprises and splits that occur now (or at least, begin to take shape) are meant to guide us back to our inner-teacher. To show us that when we are connected with a Higher Creative Power, we naturally magnetize higher quality connections because we transmit a message that speaks straight to the heart without ever saying a word.

With the 5 of Wands, we can experience judgment or consequences when we start to get more attention than we have before. It’s like a new celebrity having to deal with tabloids or a new business owner having to pay taxes on sales. It could be falling in love only to realize that your family hates your new lover. The strife that comes with the 5 of Wands takes us down a notch when we feel like we’ve only just started. With Uranus zapping this influence now, the strife could come from way out in left field, from friends, groups or social networks.

While it can be perceived as a bad thing, it’s all in how you see it… and better yet—- use it. Let’s not forget that Saturn rules this decan of Leo and this Tarot card, ultimately. Whatever comes to play and disrupt your harmony (that’s what the 5’s do) can be seen as a valuable lesson to learn that can transform you into a Pro. You get to choose — will it break you or make you?

Change-Makers and Rule-Breakers

It’s not just enough to follow your heart and blaze your own way forward now. It’s difficult for a reason. The fire within us is tempered to slow us down enough to think of consequences, how it affects others and really consider the whole. It moves us beyond the superficial so we can use our passion, talents and skills in a way that actually matters. We need and want that (deep down, anyway. even if we don’t realize it at first. After all, what good is fame if you end up miserable and alone, without a single meaningful relationship to speak of?

It’s not enough to do your own thing and screw what others have to say about it, the way it’s always been or even the rule books. This is about forging a new path all your own within the established system of reality. That’s how true change happens — it begins in reality. in this moment, with the way things are, now. So it makes it prime-time for making positive changes that have true potential to affect not just your life, but the lives of others.

Make your own rules as to how you will shine without destroying the good things that already exist. It’s not a good time to follow a rule-breaking crowd just because it’s trendy or popular. I mention that because the tendency could be to stray and lose your own way in chaos. Change-makers and rule-breakers are a dime a dozen. Anybody can do that. But nobody can BE you.

Don’t take my word for it… take a look at history. Anyone who has broken the rules or become positive change-agents are in a class all their own. Walt Disney. Einstein. Princess Diana.

So burn the hard copies. Don’t copy or follow every single rule to your own detriment, especially those that are rooted in fear. It could mean changing your own mind about what you are actually capable of (your perceived limits). Go for value and love and longevity, and nothing superficial that could sizzle or just as quickly be silenced.

Go out and shine.

Shoot for the stars,
If it feels right.
Then aim for my heart...
— Moves Like Jagger, Maroon 5

This New Moon is the time to give it your all — your heart and Soul and your best effort — keeping the whole in mind. In 6 months time, you could really make significant progress toward your wildest dreams.

Mixed Martial Art | New Moon in Gemini | June 2019

June’s New Moon in Gemini (Decan II) aligned with the 9 of Swords serves up an invitation to get in the right frame of mind and clear up any cluttered (dangerous) thought patterns that lead to suffering in one way or another. A positive mental shift is on tap when we bring awareness to the inner-workings of our psyche and take action to get more emotionally secure with the way things are and what we have the power to change. We can release guilt, shame and feel more alive with this one, when we pay attention to where our head’s at.

The Challenge: insomnia, restlessness, self-punishment, convinced to jump to dark/negative conclusions, hopeless assumptions, trouble seeing a way through the darkness or even a glimmer of light, panic attacks/anxiety, loneliness and isolation, overwhelming guilt

The Breakthrough/Potential Wisdom: forgiveness of self and others, emotional healing, establishing new empowering thought patterns, invigorated connection to intuition, renewed self-compassion/healthy sense of identity

Gemini Decan II.png

This New Moon sets us up for a provocative Eclipse season, as the next New Moon will be a Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer. The energy is intensifying. Change is getting more and more real + deep with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Everything is up for grabs as we literally reshape and redefine our reality from the inside-out. All while Jupiter and Neptune make it tough to tell the Truth from fantasy or bold-faced lies.

Now is the time to wake up to our own thought patterns (and impulsive actions) that lead nowhere good…

It’s like we must think it through to the most reasonable outcome… all the way through to the end…. see where the kinds of things we’re engaging in are actually heading —- without denying reality and consequences

The energy humming in the background all year is most definitely complicated. But this is a NEW Moon, which means it’s a time for new energy and intentions. This one is a bit of a mind-bender as it is aligned with a #9 (the 9 of Swords) which is a harvest and culmination, but also a time of emergence and new intentions.

You could think of this (—- and there will be a lot of thinking with this one) as a time to clear out the clutter in our minds. It’s like we need to get our head straight before we embark on a journey and enter the shadows that lie ahead of us. I find it fascinating that we’ve had several moon phases aligned with Tarot cards that show us how/where we lose ourselves and our connection to a Higher Power. These moonbeams exhaust the vibes brought to light with the last Full Moon in Scorpio; total debauchery. That was emotional darkness. Now we face cruelty… with the swords. The immense suffering that our minds can create. This is an opportunity to get control of our thought patterns that have gone seriously sideways and return to hope, forgiveness and heart. Mars in Cancer with the North Node of the Moon can help us out with this. It’s like plugging our mind into what our heart knows and taking a moment to press “Sync”.

Martial Art

The 2nd decan of Gemini is ruled by Mars and this Tarot card (9 of Swords) embodies the influence of Mars in Gemini. While there’s a lot going on in the cosmos now, the only astrological aspect the Sun and Moon make is a semi-sextile to Mars. So these “planetary energies attract each other, require effort, allow entry of new information”.

By getting curious, stopping to become more introspective, we can tune into what our initial responses are to feelings of not being safe. We can learn more about ourselves and even something new about what makes us tick… and it may not be what we first assume we know about our Self. We’re nudged to tune the channel of our mind to the channel where our hearts sings. And also where we are drawn to the familiar, safe and seemingly (but perhaps not really) secure.

It could be something familiar, from the past, perhaps early childhood. It could have distorted drives due to past trauma, that lingers and is most familiar to us. Like the girl who always ends up falling for the guy who beats her and treats her like absolute garbage. No, it’s not the outcome she wants BUT it is what she has come to expect from life, so it is familiar. And in an odd way, that makes it seem safer than going out with the “nice guy” (the unfamiliar).

I see this lovely support from Mars in Cancer helping us to become more competent when it comes to trusting our intuition, our most natural instincts toward empathy and even our first impressions (emotional data). First we must listen, and get good at listening to those subtler signals and then acting on them more quickly. We can become more competent and confident in being who we are.

... it’s competence that makes people as safe as they can truly be.
— Dr. Jordan B. Peterson

We can shift self-cruelty into self-compassion… that will in turn attract more compassion from others into our lives. It’s always a dance with The Lovers, the sign of the dynamic duo, Gemini.

Lovers and Haters

We can start to see how cruel we’ve been to ourselves. And even how that has been projected or pushed onto others. Or where we’re holding onto victim-hood, as a result of being on the receiving end of cruelty — either personally, through experience or perceived, as social injustice that one can never reasonably conquer alone.

With the twinning sign, the sign of The Lovers, we see duality. There are two sides to every story, but that’s not usually what we tell ourselves.

We, humans, are complex and complicated. We mix, match and exchange energies… and most often the inner (subconscious) drives don’t match our conscious (higher) desires.

The trick is to notice what’s playing on the “other” channel (whether that is within us, or seeing more deeply into another person), and not let it ruin us. {RUIN, the 10 of Swords, is what naturally follows this 9 of Swords energy.} We get to choose if we will be a lover or a hater, regardless of what happens.

We are now reminded of the incredible power our minds have. We can torment ourselves by replaying endless loops of what we did or did not do or say, sending us spinning out of control into shame, guilt and full-blown self-hatred/punishment. And with the 9 vibration — the energy materializes. We reap what we sow, and within the realm of Twin Flames, others reflect back to us what’s going on inside. It’s nearly over with the 9 of Swords. The point when we think it’s useless, pointless, hopeless… But we can now catch ourselves before we fall head over heels into that rabbit hole.

We can remember that Love exists, too, and we have the power to shift our focus (which is very important with the overall energy of this year) to what is good, and true, and based in Love. We can honor our differences and open up our minds to more optimistic and productive thoughts, connection and communication. The kind that alleviates suffering, even in the smallest way, instead of perpetuating it.

That’s why this New Moon is such a blessing, even if it is disguised by the scary face of the card.

You’re Not The Only One

Under this influence, our minds can deceive us into thinking we, alone, are responsible for the suffering we see or experience. We may take on the heavy responsibility (guilt) that weighs our mind down to the point where it begins to show up as dysfunction (of all kinds - health, relationships, finances) in our reality. With the 9 of Swords at play, I see this as a near-complete separation from union... or so we think.

Gemini (The Lovers of the Tarot) is the vibration of connecting with others in our immediate environment. The people we are drawn to, attracted to (romantically or friendly) and how we name (organize in our minds) that connection. Cruelty exhausts that connection… pushes us to the edge where connection appears to be lost. Every sword, dripping with blood, points in one direction.

Now is the time to realize that you are not the only one. Not the only one responsible, Not the only one suffering. And not solely responsible for all the suffering you see or feel. It’s safe for you to lighten up and play and love freely. No one is immune to suffering in life.

We can become more brave through our vulnerability and willingness to connect with another just as we are. We don’t need to buy into a one-sided narrative, whether that’s generated by the media, another person or our own mind.

This New Moon, as dark as this subject matter seems, is a beautiful opening and invitation to emerge out of the suffering and tell yourself a new story, and let your heart have a say in it.
