Mixed Martial Art | New Moon in Gemini | June 2019

June’s New Moon in Gemini (Decan II) aligned with the 9 of Swords serves up an invitation to get in the right frame of mind and clear up any cluttered (dangerous) thought patterns that lead to suffering in one way or another. A positive mental shift is on tap when we bring awareness to the inner-workings of our psyche and take action to get more emotionally secure with the way things are and what we have the power to change. We can release guilt, shame and feel more alive with this one, when we pay attention to where our head’s at.

The Challenge: insomnia, restlessness, self-punishment, convinced to jump to dark/negative conclusions, hopeless assumptions, trouble seeing a way through the darkness or even a glimmer of light, panic attacks/anxiety, loneliness and isolation, overwhelming guilt

The Breakthrough/Potential Wisdom: forgiveness of self and others, emotional healing, establishing new empowering thought patterns, invigorated connection to intuition, renewed self-compassion/healthy sense of identity

This New Moon sets us up for a provocative Eclipse season, as the next New Moon will be a Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer. The energy is intensifying. Change is getting more and more real + deep with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Everything is up for grabs as we literally reshape and redefine our reality from the inside-out. All while Jupiter and Neptune make it tough to tell the Truth from fantasy or bold-faced lies.

Now is the time to wake up to our own thought patterns (and impulsive actions) that lead nowhere good…

It’s like we must think it through to the most reasonable outcome… all the way through to the end…. see where the kinds of things we’re engaging in are actually heading —- without denying reality and consequences

The energy humming in the background all year is most definitely complicated. But this is a NEW Moon, which means it’s a time for new energy and intentions. This one is a bit of a mind-bender as it is aligned with a #9 (the 9 of Swords) which is a harvest and culmination, but also a time of emergence and new intentions.

You could think of this (—- and there will be a lot of thinking with this one) as a time to clear out the clutter in our minds. It’s like we need to get our head straight before we embark on a journey and enter the shadows that lie ahead of us. I find it fascinating that we’ve had several moon phases aligned with Tarot cards that show us how/where we lose ourselves and our connection to a Higher Power. These moonbeams exhaust the vibes brought to light with the last Full Moon in Scorpio; total debauchery. That was emotional darkness. Now we face cruelty… with the swords. The immense suffering that our minds can create. This is an opportunity to get control of our thought patterns that have gone seriously sideways and return to hope, forgiveness and heart. Mars in Cancer with the North Node of the Moon can help us out with this. It’s like plugging our mind into what our heart knows and taking a moment to press “Sync”.

Martial Art

The 2nd decan of Gemini is ruled by Mars and this Tarot card (9 of Swords) embodies the influence of Mars in Gemini. While there’s a lot going on in the cosmos now, the only astrological aspect the Sun and Moon make is a semi-sextile to Mars. So these “planetary energies attract each other, require effort, allow entry of new information”.

By getting curious, stopping to become more introspective, we can tune into what our initial responses are to feelings of not being safe. We can learn more about ourselves and even something new about what makes us tick… and it may not be what we first assume we know about our Self. We’re nudged to tune the channel of our mind to the channel where our hearts sings. And also where we are drawn to the familiar, safe and seemingly (but perhaps not really) secure.

It could be something familiar, from the past, perhaps early childhood. It could have distorted drives due to past trauma, that lingers and is most familiar to us. Like the girl who always ends up falling for the guy who beats her and treats her like absolute garbage. No, it’s not the outcome she wants BUT it is what she has come to expect from life, so it is familiar. And in an odd way, that makes it seem safer than going out with the “nice guy” (the unfamiliar).

I see this lovely support from Mars in Cancer helping us to become more competent when it comes to trusting our intuition, our most natural instincts toward empathy and even our first impressions (emotional data). First we must listen, and get good at listening to those subtler signals and then acting on them more quickly. We can become more competent and confident in being who we are.

... it’s competence that makes people as safe as they can truly be.
— Dr. Jordan B. Peterson

We can shift self-cruelty into self-compassion… that will in turn attract more compassion from others into our lives. It’s always a dance with The Lovers, the sign of the dynamic duo, Gemini.

Lovers and Haters

We can start to see how cruel we’ve been to ourselves. And even how that has been projected or pushed onto others. Or where we’re holding onto victim-hood, as a result of being on the receiving end of cruelty — either personally, through experience or perceived, as social injustice that one can never reasonably conquer alone.

With the twinning sign, the sign of The Lovers, we see duality. There are two sides to every story, but that’s not usually what we tell ourselves.

We, humans, are complex and complicated. We mix, match and exchange energies… and most often the inner (subconscious) drives don’t match our conscious (higher) desires.

The trick is to notice what’s playing on the “other” channel (whether that is within us, or seeing more deeply into another person), and not let it ruin us. {RUIN, the 10 of Swords, is what naturally follows this 9 of Swords energy.} We get to choose if we will be a lover or a hater, regardless of what happens.

We are now reminded of the incredible power our minds have. We can torment ourselves by replaying endless loops of what we did or did not do or say, sending us spinning out of control into shame, guilt and full-blown self-hatred/punishment. And with the 9 vibration — the energy materializes. We reap what we sow, and within the realm of Twin Flames, others reflect back to us what’s going on inside. It’s nearly over with the 9 of Swords. The point when we think it’s useless, pointless, hopeless… But we can now catch ourselves before we fall head over heels into that rabbit hole.

We can remember that Love exists, too, and we have the power to shift our focus (which is very important with the overall energy of this year) to what is good, and true, and based in Love. We can honor our differences and open up our minds to more optimistic and productive thoughts, connection and communication. The kind that alleviates suffering, even in the smallest way, instead of perpetuating it.

That’s why this New Moon is such a blessing, even if it is disguised by the scary face of the card.

You’re Not The Only One

Under this influence, our minds can deceive us into thinking we, alone, are responsible for the suffering we see or experience. We may take on the heavy responsibility (guilt) that weighs our mind down to the point where it begins to show up as dysfunction (of all kinds - health, relationships, finances) in our reality. With the 9 of Swords at play, I see this as a near-complete separation from union... or so we think.

Gemini (The Lovers of the Tarot) is the vibration of connecting with others in our immediate environment. The people we are drawn to, attracted to (romantically or friendly) and how we name (organize in our minds) that connection. Cruelty exhausts that connection… pushes us to the edge where connection appears to be lost. Every sword, dripping with blood, points in one direction.

Now is the time to realize that you are not the only one. Not the only one responsible, Not the only one suffering. And not solely responsible for all the suffering you see or feel. It’s safe for you to lighten up and play and love freely. No one is immune to suffering in life.

We can become more brave through our vulnerability and willingness to connect with another just as we are. We don’t need to buy into a one-sided narrative, whether that’s generated by the media, another person or our own mind.

This New Moon, as dark as this subject matter seems, is a beautiful opening and invitation to emerge out of the suffering and tell yourself a new story, and let your heart have a say in it.
